How to Replace a Sway Bar on a Chrysler
- 1). Loosen the lug nuts for the wheels at all four corners of your Chysler. Use a floor jack to raise the car and then lower it onto jack stands at all four corners. Finish removing the wheels.
- 2). Start at the front of the vehicle. Unbolt the sway bar links where they fasten to the suspension. This will vary, depending on the year and model of your Chrysler. Consult a workshop manual or inspect the sway bar.
- 3). Unbolt the sway bar clamps where they hold the sway bar to the body. Remove the sway bar from the car. This may take some maneuvering to get it out of the body.
- 4). Install the new sway bar by putting it on the car and installing the end links and then the brackets that hold the bar to the body. If the new bar came with new bushings, grease these up and slide them onto the new sway bar before installing it. If you do not have new bushings, remove the old ones by sliding them off the old sway bar and installing them on the new bar. Ensure that the new sway bar is installed in the correct orientation and then tighten the bolts.
- 5). Move the rear of the vehicle. Unbolt the sway bar end links with a socket and a ratchet where they attach to the chassis. Unbolt the brackets that bolt the bar to the body and that hold the bushings in place. Remove the bar from the car.
- 6). Install the new bushings onto the new bar by greasing them up and sliding them onto the new sway bar or transfer the old bushings onto the new bar.
- 7). Put the new sway bar in place and bolt the sway bar end links to the suspension and the brackets to the body, ensuring that the bushings are installed in the correct orientation and that the bar is also in the correct orientation. Tighten the bolts to the proper tightness. Replace the wheels and lower the vehicle to the ground.
