How to Replace a Crankshaft Pulley
- 1). Locate the tension pulley on the engine. This is a round piece of metal with a small arm on the top of it. On the bottom of the tension pulley is a small plastic roller that presses down on the drive belt.
- 2). Attach a pair of locking pliers onto the metal arm at the top of the tension pulley. Pull the pliers so that the roller on the tension pulley lifts up and releases the drive belt. Pull the drive belt off of the crankshaft pulley.
- 3). Connect the engine pulley remover tool to a power drill. Tighten the power drill's tip to secure the engine pulley remover.
- 4). Place the teeth of the engine pulley remover onto the pulley. Make sure that the bolt in the center of the pulley is in the socket in the center of the pulley remover. Set the power drill to reverse and pull the trigger until the bolt comes off of the pulley then remove the pulley from the engine.
- 5). Install the new crankshaft pulley into the engine. Replace the bolt onto the center of the new pulley the opposite way that you removed it. Replace the drive belt the opposite way that you removed it as well. Remove the pliers from the tension pulley and close the hood.
