    • 1). Pull the cotter pin from the propeller nut with a pair of pliers and remove the propeller nut from the shaft with an adjustable wrench. Slide the propeller from the shaft.

    • 2). Shift the motor into neutral. Lift the fast-idle lever on the boat operator's throttle control housing and start the motor. Allow the motor to run for 15 or 20 seconds. Lower the fast-idle lever.

    • 3). Allow the motor to run at its normal idle speed for an additional 15 to 20 seconds. Lift the fast-idle lever once more. The engine speed will increase from about 1,200 RPM to about 2,000; this speed increase may vary by model.

    • 4). Step back and allow the motor to continue running until it shuts down automatically. Winterization is complete when the motor comes to a halt, about a minute after the second time you raise idle .

    • 5). Apply white marine grease to the propeller shaft splines lavishly. Slide the propeller onto the propeller shaft and thread the propeller nut onto the shaft, all the way to the propeller. Torque the propeller nut to 55 pound-feet (75 Nm) and put the cotter pin through the hole in the propeller nut.
