    • 1). Raise the F350's front end with a floor jack and place the jack stands under the frame rails. Lower the truck until its weight is only supported by the jack stands.

    • 2). Crawl beneath the truck until you reach the middle of the transmission. Set the drain pan directly under the transmission pan, the flat pan at the lowest point of the transmission.

    • 3). Loosen and remove all but four of the bolts from the transmission pan, using a ratchet and socket, leaving one bolt attached at each corner of the transmission pan.

    • 4). Loosen the four remaining bolts on the transmission pan, and carefully pry the pan downward with a flat-head screwdriver to allow fluid to drain into the drain pan. Once the flow of fluid has stopped, carefully remove the four bolts and dump the remaining fluid in the transmission pan into the drain pan. Pull the gasket from the pan.

    • 5). Thoroughly clean the transmission pan using parts cleaner and lint-free shop rags. Pull the circular magnet from the corner of the pan and clean it as well. Pour any excess fluid and debris from cleaning the transmission pan into the drain pan.

    • 6). Clean the mating surface on both the transmission pan and the transmission with a lint-free shop cloth.

    • 7). Place a thin bead of RTV silicone around the transmission pan's mating surface and place the gasket on the pan, lining up the holes in the gasket with the holes in the pan. The silicone is only to hold the gasket in place while mounting the pan on the transmission.

    • 8). Hold the pan on the bottom of the transmission and hand-tighten the pan bolts. Tighten the transmission pan bolts to 10 foot-pounds, in a rotational pattern, using a torque wrench and socket.

    • 9). Lift the F350 from the jack stands, with a floor jack, and pull the jack stands from under it. Lower the Ford to the ground.

Open the F350's hood and remove the transmission dipstick. Insert a funnel into the transmission check/fill tube, the tube the dipstick was in, and pour in 6.4 qts. of new Mercon transmission fluid. Remove the funnel, clean the dipstick with a lint-free cloth and insert the transmission dipstick.

Start the F350 and allow it to idle in park; don't increase the rpm or shift gears. Pull the transmission dipstick and check the fluid level. It must be in the hatched area marked "Cold" on the dipstick. Add fluid as needed. Reinsert the dipstick and close the truck's hood.

Drive the truck for approximately 20 miles and recheck the fluid level on the dipstick while idling. The level must be in the hatched area on the dipstick labeled "Hot." Add fluid as needed and reinsert the dipstick and close the F350s hood.
