How to Change the Antifreeze in a Dodge Caravan
- 1). Remove the radiator cap. Push down on it and turn counterclockwise. Pushing down on the cap releases the safety latch. Never open the radiator cap while the Caravan is hot. This can cause serious burns from the fluid and steam caused by the fluid.
- 2). Turn the petcock (drain plug) counterclockwise. The petcock is on the bottom of the radiator. A small pair of pliers may be needed to turn it. Excessive force should not be used. It is possible to break the petcock. If it will not turn, spraying with penetrating oil will help break away any corrosion holding it fast. Allow the radiator to completely drain into a 3- to 5-gallon container.
- 3). Close the petcock once the antifreeze has drained completely. Per Popular Mechanics.com, pink antifreeze should be used to fill a Dodge Caravan. Pink antifreeze is specially formulated for Dodge Caravans and must be used as a replacement. The ratio of antifreeze and water depends on the brand of antifreeze you purchase. Follow the recommendations on the antifreeze container.
