    • 1). Open the hood of your G20 and locate the negative battery cable at the battery. Remove the retaining bolt from the cable end with a wrench and lift the cable off the battery, then isolate it from the terminals.

    • 2). Loosen the adjusting bolt at the top of the alternator with a socket and ratchet, then move to the lower bolt and loosen it as well. Rotate the alternator toward the engine enough to loosen the belt. Remove the belt from the pulley and lay it aside.

    • 3). Locate the wiring harness connector on the rear of the alternator by pressing the locking tab and pulling the connector straight out of the alternator. Remove the “BAT” cable from the back of the alternator, using a wrench to remove the nut, then slide the cable off the terminal.

    • 4). Remove the upper and lower mounting bolts from the alternator and lift it straight out of the engine compartment. Lower the new alternator into place and install the upper and lower mounting bolts but do not tighten them yet.

    • 5). Install the “BAT” cable on the terminal at the rear of the alternator, then thread the retaining nut onto the stud and tighten it with a socket and ratchet. Plug the electrical connector into the alternator, making sure it locks into place.

    • 6). Position the alternator belt onto the pulley, then pull the alternator out away from the engine, tightening the belt. Tighten the upper and lower mounting bolts on the alternator to lock it in place. Torque the bolts to 15 ft-lbs. with a torque wrench.

    • 7). Connect the negative battery cable to the negative terminal of the battery. Install the retaining bolt and tighten it with a wrench until the cable is secure.
