How to Replace Front Disc Brakes in a Honda Accord
- 1). Park the Honda Accord on a flat surface. Put the emergency brake on and put wedges behind the wheels to prevent the vehicle from rolling. Drain two thirds of the brake fluid from the master cylinder.
- 2). Locate and remove the brake hose clamp from the strut or from the knuckle by removing the retaining bolts. Lower the caliper retaining bolts. Pivot the caliper upward and then suspend it from the frame using mechanics wire. Remove the shim. Remove the pad retainers. Remove the disc brake pads from the caliper.
- 3). Review the rotor and the to ensure that there was no damage. If there is damage then it needs to be replaced. Install the pad retainers. Apply a thin layer of lubricant to both surfaces of the shim. Apply a thin layer of lubricant to the back of the disc brake pads.
- 4). Reinstall the pads and the shims. Using a C-clamp, compress the caliper piston so that the caliper will fit over the brake pads. Pivet the caliper back into position, remove the mechanics wire and using a torque wrench, tighten the mounting bolt to 36-ft. lbs.
- 5). Reconnect the brake hose to the knuckle or strut. Reinstall the wheels. Add brake fluid to the master cylinder. Bleed the brakes. Reconnect the negative battery cable to the battery. Start the engine and pump the brakes 3 to 4 times to seat the brake pads.
- 6). Reinstall the wheels. Test drive the Accord at slow to moderate speeds to ensure that the maintenance was performed correctly.
