How to Customize a Grand Vitara
- 1). Clean the hood surface of your Grand Vitara with a cotton towel that has been moistened with rubbing alcohol. This removes any dirt and wax on the hood, giving it a well-prepped and clean mounting surface to which the double-sided tape can adhere. Allow the alcohol to completely dry before attaching the hood scoop.
- 2). Clean the bottom of the plastic universal hood scoop with a towel moistened with rubbing alcohol. Use a plastic hood scoop, because a metal hood scoop must be welded, whereas you can tape on a plastic hood scoop. This allows for easier removal in the event you no longer want the scoop on your Grand Vitara. Allow the alcohol to dry before moving on.
- 3). Place double-sided tape on the bottom lip of the plastic hood scoop. The underside of the scoop is designed to have tape applied with a plastic lip that holds the tape. Some manufacturers place the tape on the scoop at the factory. If your scoop already has tape, you only need to remove the plastic seal from the tape.
- 4). Place the plastic hood scoop on the hood where you wish it to be located. People most commonly place them in the center of the hood, due to the fact that functional hood scoops (hood scoops that force air into the air cleaner) had to be in the center to allow air into the engine compartment. However, this hood scoop is purely aesthetic, so you can place it where you want it to be. Press firmly down on the hood scoop to ensure all of the taped edges adhere to the hood.
- 5). Polish the hood with car polish. The alcohol you applied removed any existing polish, so you must reapply it to ensure the vehicle hood is protected from the elements. You can polish the hood scoop along with the hood.
