How to Check If My Car Has a Tracker

    • 1). Purchase a GPS bug detector. Power it on and point it at your vehicle, making sure you slowly move it around the entire area of the car. Get underneath the car and point the device around the bottom of the vehicle as well.

    • 2). Scan your vehicle several times per day. The GPS tracker will be detected only when it is broadcasting; therefore, you must try to catch it in the act. If there is indeed a tracker on your vehicle, your GPS bug detector will eventually detect it.

    • 3). Drive your vehicle to a mechanic's shop and tell them that you need a full inspection of the entire vehicle. Inform the mechanic that you think a tracker may have been placed on your vehicle, and ask the mechanics to tell you if anything unusual is spotted.

    • 4). Call your local law enforcement officials and inform them that you found a GPS tracking device on your vehicle. By calling the officers, you will not risk performing anything illegal (penalties for tampering with GPS tracking devices differ depending on where you live) and the officers will help you remove the device. Additionally, if law enforcement happened to place the tracking device onto your vehicle, you will not risk being charged by removing the device yourself.
