How Can I Troubleshoot a CD Player in a 2002 Ford Ranger?
- 1). Check to see whether the CD you are attempting to play is the issue. Flip the CD to the unlabeled side and look for scratches or smudges. Clean it by softly buffing this side of the CD with a clean, lint-free cloth. Add some rubbing alcohol on the cloth if smudges are difficult to remove. Once clean, insert the CD into the CD player to see if it plays.
- 2). Put a laser lens cleaner disc into the CD player. Once in, the audio track will tell you what track to go to start the lens cleaning process. This CD is equipped with a tiny brush that removes dust and dirt particles from the player's laser lens.
- 3). Look under the dashboard with a flashlight to see if the wiring harness at the back of the CD player is securely connected. Also, make sure that none of the wires are damaged.
- 4). With the truck turned off, go underneath the hood and detach the red (positive) battery cable. After 10 minutes, reattach the cable. This will reset your CD player back to the default factory settings.
