Ford Car Stereo Removal
- Remember to eject any compact discs or cassette tapes before removing the unit. You'll have to remove some trim before you get to the stereo.. The trim in most cases will snap right off. You will need to gently pull it over the radio until it is free from the dash. Place the trim aside, look for bolts on either side of the radio and remove them with a socket wrench. Some radios are locked in the dash and can only be pulled with special keys. You can purchase these at any parts store. The key is placed in the small holes in the front of the radio by the controls. Pull the radio out just enough to access the wiring in the back.
- The wiring in the back of the radio is a harness for power, grounding, and speaker connections. The other wire in the back is the antenna wire. Detach these from the radio. The harness has a quick-connect tab on the back that can be pulled from the sides of the harness to free it from the radio. Pull it off and let it hang in the radio housing. The antenna wire can be pulled out. The radio is now free to be pulled out, and you can remove it.
