Preparing to Program the Remote

• Gather the ignition key for your Jeep Cherokee and any keyless remote that you plan on programming. Close all of the doors and windows on your Jeep, including the trunk, and enter the automobile and close the door behind you. With your remote in one hand and your key in the other hand, sit in the driver's seat and insert your key into the ignition of your Cherokee.
  
  

Programming

• With your key in the ignition, hold the remote in your hand and turn the key in the ignition two clicks to the right, to the "On" position. This will be one full click from "Start" and your car will be activated but not turned on. Lock the doors in your car by hitting the lock switch on the driver's side door as soon as you switch the car to "On." Next, aim your keyless remote to the bulb in the center of the ceiling of your Cherokee and press and hold for five to 10 seconds the unlock button on your remote.
  
  

Finishing the Programming Sequence

• At this time, the doors of your vehicle should respond to your remote by unlocking. If it does not work after 10 seconds, keep the remote pointed at the bulb and press and hold the button again for an additional 10 seconds. This should work and your remote will be programmed. You can then turn your key back to "Off," remove the key, exit the Cherokee and use the buttons on your remote to test if the programming has worked and is ready to use.
