    Dry Systems

    • Dry nitrous oxide systems use fuel injectors to increase the engine's power. The upper intake is dry, and the fuel level is bolstered by increasing pressure in the injection system. The sensor reads the pressure increase as an indicator of low fuel and the system automatically adds more to the engine. The fuel is then burned with the extra oxygen from the nitrous oxide, tincreasing the engine's power (see Reference 1).

      To install the dry nitrous oxide system, first disconnect the battery and mount the gas bottle. It should be kept far from the engine and transmission, which can become hot and cause the bottle to explode. The bottle must be mounted semi-upright along the exterior of the car to avoid driver incapacitation, and the blow-down tube should face away from the car's interior to avoid leaking gas into the vehicle. Next, install the nozzle and the solenoid. Run the nitrous line to the fuel injector as shown in the kit's instructions. Finally, connect the nitrous oxide system to the car's electrical system. The system must be activated by a switch under the hood, and it should only be turned on when the engine reaches 300 RPM (see Reference 3).

      Tune the system properly before using it. Also, inspect and clean the system often to ensure the proper level of nitrous oxide is reaching the fuel supply. To see if the proper amount of nitrous oxide is being used, look at the sparkplug. A while plug without discoloration indicates a working system, while a brown or black plug indicates a nitrogen-heavy fuel component. A purple tip indicates an excessively lean amount of nitrous oxide being used (see Reference 3).

    Wet Systems

    • Wet nitrous oxide systems introduce the fuel and nitrous oxide at the same time, causing the upper intake to dampen. They require more pressure to move liquid, but they also produce more power than dry systems (see Reference 1).

      To install a wet system, mount the nitrous oxide bottle in a semi-upright position. Next, install the nozzle where the fuel and nitrous oxide mix. It should be mounted along the air inlet duct between the throttle and the mass airflow sensor. Mount the solenoid and connect it to the nozzle hose. Run the nitrous feed line between the nozzle and the nitrous oxide tank. Connect the fuel supply by following the nitrous oxide kit's instructions exactly. Never cut the fuel line when the engine is hot, and point the opening away from your body and any electronics as the line is pressurized. Once the fuel line is connected, check the system for leaks before hooking it up to the car's electrical system. Tune the system before use (see Reference 2).
