    • 1). Choose the right location. Catmint should get at least six hours of full sun per day. It should also be planted in soil that is well-drained.

    • 2). Prepare the soil. Perennials, including cat mint, love organic soil. One week before planting, mix an organic mulch into the soil to a depth of 18 inches.

    • 3). Dig the hole. Cat mint plants should be planted 18 inches apart, as they spread rapidly. Dig each hole to the depth of the container that you purchased the cat mint in.

    • 4). Remove the plant from the container and gently loosen the root ball. Place in the hole and cover with soil.

    • 5). Fill the hole with soil and tamp it down lightly. Add a layer of mulch on top and water thoroughly. Let the soil dry completely between waterings.
