How to Deadhead Viburnum
- 1). Look at the plant and compare the flowers. You will deadhead the ones that look wilted, brown or otherwise past prime condition.
- 2). Isolate the branch with the flower you plan to deadhead and hold it firmly in one hand.
- 3). Grasp the stem with your other hand, just below the base of the flower, and see if new flower buds are developing further down. Firmly snap off the wilted bloom, being careful to remove just a little of the stem beneath. If you take off too much, you may damage the new buds.
- 4). Cut the dead flower off with small scissors if the stem is too thick to cleanly snap with your fingers. Twisting or tearing a stem will damage it and could cause it to die back.
