    • 1). Dig holes with a spade no deeper than 1/4 inch into the ground, preferably in an area where the plants will receive full sun.

    • 2). Place calendula seeds inside the holes. Cover lightly with dirt. Space flowers at least 15 inches apart.

    • 3). Remove all weeds from the flower bed. Weeds can hinder the growth of the calendula by taking away much-needed moisture from the soil.

    • 4). Water the plants a few times per week. Additional watering may be needed during dry spells.

    • 5). Add fertilizer to your garden once a month. This is especially important if you have poor-quality soil.
