How to Landscape Kerria Rose Bushes
- 1). Find a place your yard that receives full sunlight to partial shade. Don't plant these shrubs underneath a lot of overhanging branches. Squeeze the dirt to see how well the soil drains. If water droplets squeeze out, the soil is waterlogged. Soil that breaks apart in clumps is too dry. Optimal soil will be malleable.
- 2). Purchase a soil pH testing kit, which can be found at extension offices. Dig a 6-inch hole at your designated planting site and collect soil samples. Mail the dry samples to the laboratory address provided on the test. Kerria rose bushes need a pH range of 6.1 to 6.5, which is slightly acidic. Add lime to acidic soil or sulfur to soil that is too alkaline.
- 3). Space the bushes 7 to 8 feet apart, or 6 to 7 feet apart if you are establishing a bordering row.
- 4). Prune the bushes to remove any branches that stray away from the planting site. Likewise, you want to remove any damaged or diseased branches.
