How to Replace the Stock Audio Speakers in a Car
- 1). Remove the speaker grille. If it is screwed on, use a Phillips head screwdriver to remove it. If it simply snaps into place, gently pry it loose with a putty knife or flat head screwdriver.
- 2). Use the Phillips head screwdriver to remove the screws that hold the speaker in place.
- 3). Detach the wiring harness from the old speaker(s), or the positive and negative leads attached to the back of the speakers. Lift out the old speakers.
- 4). Bring the old speaker to a car audio store or the car audio department of a major electronics retailer. The new speakers need to be a similar size and depth to fit in your car. Listen to a few favorite pieces of music through a number of speakers and select the best sounding speakers for you.
- 5). Apply Dynamat or other sound absorption material before installing the new speakers. Simply press the material onto the door frame area to improve the speaker's sound quality.
- 6). Attach the wires or wire harness to the new speaker and screw the new speaker(s) into place. Replace the speaker grille.
