Rae's Take:
It's got magic, mind-blowing special effects, great-looking men and women and a whole lot of drama. What I find most gripping about this show is the constant moral dilemmas the sisters must face. Magic, while it can fix troubles with demons and otherworldly creatures, it cannot fix the everyday problems such as money troubles, love or a bad hair day.
After seven years, Charmed never gets stale and continues to keep me under its “spell.”
Synopsis:
What of one day you woke up and discovered that not only were you a witch, but you were one of three of the most powerful witches of all-time? That is exactly what happened to the three Halliwell sisters.
Upon discovering their witchy origins, Prue (Shannen Dougherty), Piper (Holly Marie Combs) and Phoebe (Alyssa Milano) embark on a journey into the world of witches, demons, vampires and whitelighters.
Piper finds love with her whitelighter (a magical bodyguard for the witches) Leo (Brian Krause) and eventually they marry and have two children, Wyatt and Chris. Poor Phoebe is unlucky in love, having married and vanquished a demon. Prue is just plain unlucky, as she is killed by a demon after season three.
Soon after Prue's death, Paige (Rose McGowen) entered the picture. As it turned out, Paige and the sisters share the same mother, but her father is a whitelighter, making her half-witch/half-whitelighter.
Through the years, the sisters have battled every demon imaginable, but there is still one force they need to vanquish: The Source of all evil, who is also the key to bringing Leo back to life. With the help of new witch-in-training, Billie, the sisters will do anything, including breaking all the rules to find a median between preventing evil from taking over the world and finding some kind of normalcy to their very complicated lives.
