    • The state of Illinois had a 2009 estimated population of 12,910,409, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, the highest concentration of which is in the Chicago area. Numerous television stations throughout the state broadcast over the more populous areas and into the outlying regions. A few of the more significant television markets in Illinois (besides Chicago) include Rockford, Peoria, Champaign/Urbana and the Moline/Quad Cities area.

    ABC7 (WLS-TV, Chicago)

    • This major Chicago station is the ABC network's flagship station for the midwest, and is a long-time local news leader for the area, offering six different local news programs each weekday. The station also broadcasts syndicated programming along with ABC network shows, and interacts with viewers through a content-rich website and social networking.

    WTVO Channel 17/WQRF Fox 39 (Rockford)

    • Owned by Nextar Broadcasting Group, Inc., these two stations in Rockford share the same address and studio space, as well as a centralized website, mystateline.com. Covering northern Illinois, WTVO is the local ABC affiliate, while WQRF is the Fox affiliate. The two stations maintain separate local newscasts. WTVO also broadcasts "Rockford's My Network TV," formerly a UPN station, on digital subchannel 17-2.

    WEEK-TV (News 25, Peoria)

    • Billed as "Central Illinois' NewsCenter," this station is owned by Granite Broadcasting and is Peoria's local NBC affiliate, offering local news and syndicated and network programming on Channel 25. In 2010, WEEK entered a "shared services agreement" with the local ABC affiliate (WHOI-19) to share studio space and local news coverage.

    WCIA 3 (Champaign-Urbana)

    • This station is owned by Nextar Broadcasting, Inc., and is the local CBS affiliate for the Champaign-Urbana area, providing local news coverage, network programming and syndicated programs to viewers. The station also maintains a content-rich, interactive website called illinoishomepage.net., where viewers can get updated news, weather and community information and advice. This studio also broadcasts the local My Network station, WCFN TV 49.

    WQAD News 8 (Moline)

    • Covering the Quad Cities area at the Illinois/Iowa border, this station is the local ABC affiliate and is owned by LocalTV, LLC. The station offers local news, syndicated and network programming and interacts with viewers through social networking and an interactive website. Among the website's features is the live streaming of its newscasts with simultaneous online chat.
