    • 1). Plant yellow trumpet vine in full sunlight. Although the vine will grow in partial sunlight, at least six to eight hours of sunlight per day will result in more and larger blooms.

    • 2). Water your yellow trumpet vine regularly, providing enough moisture to keep the soil moist but not soggy. Moist soil is especially important during the plant's first year. Continue to provide water through the fall, and give the vine an occasional drink of water during dry winters.

    • 3). Feed the yellow trumpet vine in late spring, early summer and late summer during the plant's first one to two years. Use a granular fertilizer with a ratio such as 15-0-15. Apply the fertilizer at the rate recommended on the fertilizer label, as rates will vary depending on the size of your vine. Established yellow trumpet vines shouldn't be fertilized, as fertilizing mature plants can may result in unfettered growth that will require extensive pruning.

    • 4). Prune yellow trumpet vine any time of year to keep the plant under control. Trim the vines to the desired length and remove any dead or weak growth. Regularly remove any vines that reach the roof, as the vines can damage the shingles. Dig out any suckers that grow near the plant.
