How to Prune Thunbergia Erecta
- 1). Prune in late winter or early spring to encourage new growth. In addition, pruning can be done at this time to maintain the desired size or to remove any diseased or dead parts of the plant.
- 2). Decide on the shape of the shrub before you begin clipping. The King's Mantle can be train or cut into hedges, topiaries or other shapes to become a focal point in the garden.
- 3). Use pruning shears or a pruning saw to clip only the branches or stems that are overgrown and out of proportions to the shrub. Begin at the top of the shrub, working down toward the base.
- 4). Clip dead or dying stems back to the main stalk or trunk. The dead stems will be obvious by the change of bark and brown leaves. Trimming dead branches promotes new growth
