How Do I Break a Cinder Block Into Two Parts?
- 1). Put on the safety goggles to protect your eyes from flying concrete.
- 2). Set the cinder block in front of you and measure its center point. Place the end of the tape measure at the edge of the block and extend it to the other edge. Record the number of inches or centimeters of the full length of the block. Divide the full length in half. Use the measuring tape to locate the divided distance from the edge of the block.
- 3). Mark a line at the center with the mason's chisel, applying steady pressure to the chisel as you draw the line with the edge.
- 4). Place the chisel at the edge of the cinder block at the center point and hit the top of the chisel a few times with the mason's hammer before moving the chisel down the line you previously created, hammering, until you reach the edge of the block.
- 5). Flip the block on its side, draw a line with the chisel edge and hammer the top of the chisel, slowly moving it down the marked line. Continue flipping and hammering until the block splits into two pieces.
- 6). Chisel away any loose pieces of concrete on the edges of the two pieces.
