How to Add a New Room

    Start here

    • 1). Connect your new satellite or cable receiver to your television. Locate the RCA audio/video outputs on the back of your receiver. These will be yellow, red and white, and round. Insert one set of ends of the RCA audio/video cables into these ports.

    • 2). Connect the other set of ends from this cable to your television. These ports will be identical to the ones you just used. Make sure to match up the color coding in all instances.

    • 3). Connect an RG-6 coaxial cable to the cable or satellite input on the back of your receiver; this will be a metal, cylindrical port with a pin-sized hole in the center. Insert the pin from your cable into this port, then twist the end to secure it in place.

    For Cable Systems

    • 1). Run your coaxial cable from your new television to your nearest television that is already connected to cable.

    • 2). Disconnect the cable from the input on the television that's already hooked up, and connect that coaxial cable to the input side of your coaxial splitter. This input will be labeled as such.

    • 3). Connect a new coaxial cable to one of the outputs on the splitter, then re-connect the television you just disconnected. Connect the cable from your new television to another one of the outputs on the splitter.

    For Satellite Systems

    • 1). Determine whether your satellite system has an installed satellite splitter. Trace your cables from your satellite dish. Either they will go directly to two televisions (or to a single DVR) or to a splitter. If they run to a splitter, skip Step 2. If not, then continue to Step 2.

    • 2). Install your satellite splitter. Disconnect the wires you currently have installed to your televisions, and connect both of these wires to the pair of inputs on the back of your satellite splitter.

    • 3). Connect the cable from your newly installed television to one of the outputs on your satellite splitter.

    • 4). Run two new cables from the outputs on the satellite splitter, and re-connect the televisions you disconnected.
