Fill a spray bottle with one part bleach to 10 parts water. Alternatively, if you want to use an "eco-friendly" alternative to bleach, fill the spray bottle with a solution of 50 percent distilled white vinegar and 50 percent water. - 2). Spray the cleaning solution over the interior surfaces of the washing machine. Wipe down all of the surfaces with a cleaning rag to remove soap scum buildup and any other residue inside the washer.
- 3). Spray the cleaning solution onto the washing machine's rubber seal. Leave it there for a few minutes to set in then wipe it off. Remove any stubborn marks with the scrubbing side of a sponge.
- 4). Coat the inside of the washing machine door with the cleaning solution then clean it off with a rag.
- 5). Pour 1/2-cup of bleach or a cup of distilled white vinegar into the detergent dispenser. Close the door immediately, select a hot wash program and turn the machine on. This will ensure any remaining soap scum is removed.
