How to Cut Ceramic Tile Around Stub-Out
- 1). Draw the outline of the hole you need to cut in the tile where the stub-out is to be located using a grease pencil.
- 2). Attach a 1/4-inch masonry bit to an electric drill. Use the drill to punch a series of holes through the tile and backer board around the drawn circle. Place the holes so that the edges of each hole are as close to touching as possible.
- 3). Tap on the tile, just inside the holes surrounding the drilled circle gently with a hammer. Tap around the entire circle of holes, making several rounds within the perimeter of the cutout area until you break the piece from the wall.
- 4). Smooth out the rough edges with a file or by clipping the small points surrounding the hole with tile nippers. Dust off the tile surface with a clean cloth to remove any debris left from the drilling process.
