    • 1). Make sure that you have BlackBerry Desktop Manager installed on your computer. If you do not have the software, you can download it from BlackBerry's website (see the Resources section).

    • 2). Select the option "BlackBerry Internet Service" during the installation process. If you have the software already installed, uninstall the software and begin again to properly remove the IT policy.

    • 3). Download the file "policy.bin" from the BlackBerry Forums (see the Resources section). When you are asked for the location to save the file, navigate to "C," "Program Files," "Research in Motion" and finally "BlackBerry."

    • 4). Turn on your BlackBerry Pearl. Press down on the "Menu" button and then click the "Options" selection. Scroll to and select "Security," and then click "Wipe on the Device." Make sure that you close the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software on the computer before proceeding.

    • 5). Click the "Start" button on the computer desktop. Click "Run"; if your version of Windows doesn't display "Run" on the Start menu, type "Run" in the search field and press "Enter." In the window that appears, type "regedit" and click "OK." Navigate to the menu path of "HKEY_Current_Users\Software\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\PolicyManager."

    • 6). Scroll down to and right-click the folder named "Policy Manager." Click the option "New/String Value" and then enter "Path" in the field that appears.

    • 7). Click the words "Path Subkey," and in the "Value Data" field, type "C:\Program Files\Research In Motion\BlackBerry\policy.bin".

    • 8). Make sure that all the windows close on the computer. Once everything is closed, open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager software. Connect the BlackBerry Pearl to the computer using a USB cable.

    • 9). Verify that the software automatically recognizes the BlackBerry Pearl and updates it. A progress bar will appear and then confirm the process with a verification. Press the "Menu" button on the BlackBerry, click "Options," and then click "Security" to make sure that there are no more references to an IT policy and the BES is completely removed.
