How to Cover Gaps in Laminate Flooring at Door Frames
- 1). Measure the gap between the doors jambs to determine the T-molding width. Close the door and measure the gap between the laminate flooring and the bottom of the door to determine the T-molding length.
- 2). Remove the metal channel that surrounds the T-molding base. Cut the T-molding by using the appropriate tool, such as a hacksaw for aluminum, a wood saw for wood or a utility knife for rubber material. Transfer the length to the U-channel and cut it with a hacksaw.
- 3). Lay the U-channel on the floor and align it with the gap. Cut the laminate flooring with a utility knife for thin laminate, or a circular saw for laminate wood using the edge of the channel as a straight edge. Make a gap the width of the track that will secure the T-molding.
- 4). Lay the tracking between the cut laminate flooring. Use a screw gun fitted with a Phillips driving bit to fasten the track to the subfloor material with one-inch screws.
- 5). Lay the T-molding on top of the installed tracking. Press down on the T-molding firmly to seat the molding base inside the track.
