Measuring Your Room

• Measure the bathroom where you plan to install your cork flooring. To do this, measure the length of the room and multiply it by the width of the room. This will give you the square footage. To account for mistakes in installation, add an extra 10 percent to your square footage. Once you know the square footage, you are prepared to purchase the cork flooring. Place the flooring in your bathroom at least a week before you plan to install it. Doing so will allow the flooring to acclimate to the room.
  
  

Pre-Installation

• To prepare for cork flooring installation in your bathroom, carefully sweep and clean the area. Remove the baseboards and toilet in the room. Make sure the floor is level and smooth, sanding it if necessary. Because you are installing the floor in a bathroom it is also a good idea to do a moisture test. Lay plastic on the floor and wait 24 hours. If moisture is present, you may want to set up a dehumidifier and air the floor out before installation.
  
  

Dry Run and Primer

• Lay the cork flooring tile out in a dry run. The purpose of this is to help you see where the tiles will be and where you will need to cut tiles. After you have a good idea of the layout, stack the tiles outside of the room for later use. Seal the floor by applying a primer with a paint roller. Let the primer dry for about one hour.
  
  

Flooring Installation

• Apply the cork flooring tiles with a water-based adhesive. Carefully lay the tiles, making sure the seams between the tiles are small. Use a razor blade to cut the tiles that need adjusting. After installation secure the tile by rolling a 100-lb roller over the tiles. Use a paint roller to seal the tiles with a sealer. Wait 24 hours before reattaching the baseboards and toilet.
