You - Old, Now New!
What will happen to you if you abide in God? The way you think will change, and your response will be God-like in all situations.
There will be a transformation of the old you into a new you.
Compare the old and new "You" below: The Old You: Worry, Proud, Selfish, Impatient, un/Happy, No peace, un/Productive The New You: Trust God, Humble, Unselfish, Patient, Joyful, Peace, Abundantly productive Now, how does one get there? It is a journey; it is not a blink-of-the-eye happening.
Abandoning your old self takes time, but it is achievable by doing the following: • Read the Bible every day.
Set a time every day, at least 15 minutes or more, to read what God has to say to you.
Devotional books can direct you to read different Bible passages, or you may begin by reading the Gospels (Matthew, Mark, Luke, or John), Ephesians, Galatians, Proverbs, Psalms, or start to read at the beginning of the Bible.
Don't be discouraged if you don't understand everything.
In time, God will enlighten you.
• Program yourself to talk to God all the time.
During the day whether you are at home, at work, running errands, or on the road, constantly ask Him to help you during your tasks, or send off a quick prayer to someone, or bless someone when he cuts you off in traffic (To most of us, this is not a normal response).
Keep God with you at all times in your thoughts.
Make this a habit.
• Be still and reflect on God sometime during the day.
Quiet your mind.
• Recite affirmations from memory or written notes.
You may have Bible verses to say to yourself during the day or words that you make up to say to yourself.
For example: "Trust God", the Lord's Prayer", "Ask and it will be given.
", "I can do all things through God.
", or "With God's help, I will know what to do.
" • Obey God's Word.
Do the above faithfully, and you will feel Christ's presence living within you.
The new you will emerge.
You will embody the traits of "The New You" above and find yourself more loving, forgiving, and beginning to think as God thinks.
As this change begins, there still will be times when you find your mind focused on the problem, which will cause you anxiety.
When this occurs, say to yourself, "STOP!", and immediately focus on God--abide in Him.
You will instantly sense a peace by trusting God, Who will enable you how to respond whatever the situation you are encountering.
Wow! What a God! "It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself for me.
" Galatians 2:20 NKJV
