How to Make Your Own Nontoxic Dish-washing Detergent
- 1). Rinse out the squirt bottle with hot water to make sure it is clean inside. Shake the bottle to eliminate as much water as you can after rinsing. Set the bottle upside down in a dish rack to allow any remaining water to drain.
- 2). Gather all the ingredients required and a measuring cup. Get a medium-sized bowl and large spoon for mixing the ingredients.
- 3). Add 1/2 cup of liquid castile soap to the bowl. Follow with 1/2 cup of lukewarm water.
- 4). Add 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice to the mixture to help kill bacteria.
- 5). Follow with 3 drops of tea tree oil to provide natural antifungal, antibacterial and antiviral properties to the detergent.
- 6). Add 1/2 cup of white vinegar. Vinegar will kill germs and help the detergent cut grease and remove odors from your dishes and cooking utensils.
- 7). Stir the mixture until the ingredients are thoroughly blended.
- 8). Pour the dish detergent mixture into the squirt bottle. Screw on the cap. Give the bottle several shakes to ensure the ingredients are well mixed.
- 9). Use two tablespoons of the detergent for each cycle you run in the dishwasher. Use two teaspoons for washing dishes in the sink. Shake the bottle each time you use the detergent to make sure the ingredients are appropriately mixed and nothing settles to the bottom of the bottle.
