How to Remove Carpet Staples From a Hard Wood Floor
- 1). Put on the work gloves and safety goggles.
- 2). Wedge a corner of the plastic putty knife underneath the flat edge of the staple, in order to avoid gouging the wood.
- 3). Use the needle-nose pliers to grasp the flat edge of the staple.
- 4). Pull the staple from the floor, using a twisting rollover motion. Discard the staple.
- 5). For pieces of staples left in the floor, use the pliers to grab whatever bit of it you can, and pull it out. If this isn't possible, use a file to file down the piece until it is even with the floor, but be careful not to damage the wood.
