How to Troubleshoot Hunter Douglas Blinds

    • 1). Inspect the Hunter Douglas blinds' cord if pulling it doesn't raise or lower the blinds. The cord may have become tangled or wrapped around the gears at the top of the blinds. Unwind or untangle as needed to allow the cord to move freely.

    • 2). Replace the batteries in the Hunter Douglas blinds if it's a cordless, battery-operated model. The battery compartment is usually located at the top of the blinds. Consult your user manual to determine what type of batteries the blinds require. Batteries typically need replacing every 12 months.

    • 3). Check that the blinds are properly mounted to your wall if the entire setup shakes or jiggles easily. This creates a considerable safety hazard should the blinds ever come crashing down. Installation instructions vary by model, but most Hunter blinds use a variety of screws that should be tightened to hold the blinds securely against your wall.

    • 4). Clean the blinds if you notice that they're dirty, discolored or can't close all the way due to a buildup of debris. Tolerance for cleaning solutions varies according to the construction material (e.g. plastic Hunter Douglas blinds can handle more caustic cleaning solutions than the company's wood products). Generally, dusting or vacuuming will keep dust in check. Clean stains and other heavier debris with a cloth dampened in warm water mixed with liquid dish soap. Consult your Hunter user manual before using chemical-based cleaners, as your blinds may not be able to handle such products.

    • 5). Contact Hunter Douglas' customer service line toll-free at 800-789-0331 if you still cannot get your blinds to work properly or if you need replacement parts or servicing. Support representatives are available Mondays through Fridays from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Eastern Time.
