How to Fit Window Blinds
- 1). Measure the inside of the window frame with a steel measuring tape. Take measurements that are exact, to within 1/8 inch, and note them clearly with width and height.
- 2). Measure the window horizontally in three spots: the top, middle and bottom. Windows are not always perfectly square, so if your measurements vary, work with the smallest width measurement to easily fit the blinds within the window frame.
- 3). Measure the window vertically in two places: the left side and the right side. If the measurements do not match, choose the longer measurement to ensure the blinds cover the entire window. Make sure the blinds will be wide and long enough so no light shows through.
- 4). Verify that the blinds you purchase include all the parts listed on the enclosed instructions. Hold the blinds up to window to make sure they will fit and the measurements are correct.
- 5). Position a bracket against the top left inside corner of the window frame. The bracket is a square box with lots of holes to allow you to mount it different ways. On the front, a flap opens up. Place the bracket so the open flap side faces toward the middle of the room and opens upward.
- 6). Hold the bracket in place, and tap a screw through one of the holes with a hammer to start it. Tighten this screw and the others with a drill fitted with 1/4-inch hex nut driver. If you don't have a drill, tighten the screws with a screwdriver.
- 7). Install the opposite bracket the same way. Install center supports for windows that are 60 inches wide or larger.
- 8). Insert the blinds into the brackets. Close the little flaps over the openings, and lock them in place. Make sure your window blinds fit and work perfectly.
- 9). Secure the pull string or mechanisms that open and close the blinds so children and pets can't get hurt.
