Control Valves

• Control valves are valve types designed to manage conditions such as liquid, temperature and pressure levels. The control valve partially or fully opens or shuts based on signals received from sensors that monitor fluid conditions. Butterfly valves are control-type valves.
  
  

Butterfly Control Valve

• Butterfly valves manage the flow of fluids by opening and closing a disc mechanism. A rod passes through the disc, which connects to an actuator outside of the valve. An actuator is a mechanical device that moves or controls another mechanism and is typically powered by electricity. The actuator rotates in response to signals, which turns the disk parallel to the flow, allowing its passage, or perpendicular to the flow, blocking it.
  
  

Uses

• Butterfly valves are used in carburetors in order to maintain strict control of the air flow from and to the engine. Ships typically use butterfly valves due to their small and lightweight nature and durability under oil and saltwater conditions. Butterfly valves also work well with fresh water and offer fast handling and controlled pressure limits, which makes them a common choice found in firefighting devices such as hoses.
