How to Install Bathroom Ceramic Backsplash Tiles
- 1). Measure the backsplash area and divide it into quadrants. Mark the lines on the backsplash, using a level, a ruler and a pencil.
- 2). Spread tile mastic onto one quadrant of the backsplash area with a trowel. Create deep grooves in the mastic by using the tip of the trowel and an arcing motion. These grooves help the ceramic tiles adhere better.
- 3). Tile the first quadrant, starting at the intersection of the four lines. Press each tile into the mastic. Work outward from the center, placing tile spacers between the tiles in the quadrant to maintain a consistent gap. Measure and cut tiles with a ceramic tile cutter as necessary to fit at the top, bottom or corners of the backsplash. Place a level on the tiles to ensure that the rows of tile are straight.
- 4). Apply mastic to the next quadrant and install the tiles in the same manner. Continue until all four quadrants of are tiled. Allow the backsplash to cure overnight.
- 5). Apply the grout over the ceramic backsplash tiles with a trowel, using diagonal, sweeping motions. Cover the entire backsplash. Let the grout cure for about 20 minutes.
- 6). Clean excess grout from the backsplash tiles with a wet sponge. Let the backsplash dry overnight. Polish off any remaining grout with a clean, dry cloth.
