How to Learn Dryer Vent Cleaning
- 1). Unplug the power cord to your dryer. Turn off the gas valve, if your dryer runs on gas.
- 2). Disconnect the vent from the dryer. You can accomplish this by loosening the clamp and gently pulling away from the dryer.
- 3). Disassemble all sections of the dryer vent. They can be carefully twisted apart. This will allow you to individually unclog and clean each section for maximum efficiency.
- 4). Attach a toilet brush to a plummer's snake tool with duct tape. Wrap the tape around the brush handle and the end of the snake several times until it is securely connected.
- 5). Insert the toilet brush into the first section of hose, and twist it to remove lint buildup. Use a back and forth motion as you twist to dislodge the lint. For a longer hose, you can extend the snake tool so the toilet brush can reach further into the hose.
- 6). Use a vacuum with a hose attachment to suck out dislodged lint.
- 7). Repeat the process for each section of the hose.
- 8). Inspect the exhaust discharge cap to make sure there is no lint obstructing the airflow. If there is, use the vacuum hose to remove it. Wipe the cap with a damp cloth to remove any remaining lint particles.
- 9). Assemble the dryer vent hose so that all sections are connected, and then connect the hose to the dryer.
