How to Get Rid of Centipedes in Old Hardwood Flooring
- 1). Sweep and wash your hardwood floors. Centipedes are carnivorous and eat soft-bodied insects, including spiders and worms. Removing these pests from your hardwood flooring will motivate most centipedes to move on to another location.
- 2). Lay sticky traps on your hardwood floors. Centipedes do not accumulate in great numbers like cockroaches. Thus, a few sticky traps placed around your home should get rid of your centipede problem.
- 3). Seal entrance cracks. If you have old hardwood flooring, chances are that centipedes are hiding out in the cracks. You can seal cracks in your hardwood flooring by using a color-matched filler (popular manufacturers include Bruce Hardwood or Dura Seal). In addition, check the area where the walls meet the hardwood flooring and seal any cracks you find there.
- 4). Keep your house dry. Centipedes require moist environments. By running a dehumidifier, you can probably prevent a centipede problem.
- 5). Spread insecticide, such as Drione, in places where centipedes hide, such as cracks and crevices. Be sure to check the instructions before applying insecticide directly onto hardwood floors. Many insecticides, including Drione, are not recommended for exposed surfaces.
