How to Apply Hardwood Flooring Around Door Facings

    • 1). Place a piece of scrap flooring against the edge of the door facing. Flip the scrap of flooring upside-down so you do not scratch the finish on the flooring.

    • 2). Undercut the door facings and jamb. Use the scrap piece of flooring as a template to estimate how high to cut the door facings. Use a flush-cut dovetail saw to cut the facings to size above the scrap flooring.

    • 3). Remove the cut facings from the bottom of the doorway. A screwdriver or chisel should help you easily remove the piece. Vacuum the bottom of the door where the cut facings were removed.

    • 4). Cut a rough cutout of the door jamb on the wood plank that will be installed. The cutout does not need to be perfect as it will be hidden beneath the door facings once installed. Use a jigsaw to cut the cutout from the wood plank.

    • 5). Install the cut wood plank by sliding it into place beneath the door facing and nailing into place like the rest of the wood floor.
