    • 1). Remove the mirror from its frame. You'll need access to the silvered side of the mirror, located on its back.

    • 2). Place the mirror on a flat surface with the silvered-side up. Put on rubber gloves. Apply bleach liberally to a cleaning cloth and wipe down the silvering until it is completely removed.

    • 3). If the bleach does not remove anything, use a new cloth to apply paint thinner. Some old mirrors have a layer of paint above the silvering. After the paint is removed, the bleach will remove the silvering.

    • 4). Meticulously clean your mirror. The end result should be a clear piece of glass.

    • 5). Take the glass and its frame to your local glass shop. Ask the glassier to cut a thin piece of mirror glass to the exact length and width of your glass piece.

    • 6). Carefully align your original glass with the new mirrored glass, sealing them with masking tape to keep the dust out. Your new mirror is now ready to be placed back in its frame.
