    Removing the Solid Soil

    • It is important to remove the solid soil before adding cleansers or scrubbing so that you do not allow the soil to fall into the carpet even deeper. Use a spoon, putty knife or anything else you can find to scrape the vomit off of the carpet surface and dispose of it.

    Loosening Tough Soil

    • Tough particles of vomit may adhere themselves to the carpet fibers and can be difficult to remove. Pour a small amount of warm water over these spots to loosen the soil. Do not scrub it in, as the soil will then be dispersed further into the carpet. Instead, sprinkle baking soda over the spot so that the baking soda can soak up the water along with any loosened vomit. Allow the spot to air-dry and vacuum it up. Repeat the process until all of the moisture and stubborn vomit is removed.

    Removing The Stain

    • Remove the stain to maintain the look of your carpet and avoid having to replace it or cover it with area rugs. Pour club soda over the entire discolored are and blot it with paper towels. Do not rub it in, just blot to soak up the club soda along with any stain that lifts from the area. If the stain is too set in, or drastically a different color from your carpet, try a commercial brand of carpet stain remover. Follow the instructions carefully to get the best results.

    Removing Traces and Odors

    • Sometimes, even after the stain and soil have been removed, an odor will remain in the carpet. Vomit contains acids and enzymes that must be broken down in order to be completely removed. Even if the vomit is from a human, visit your local pet supply store and purchase and enzyme cleaner that will break down and neutralize the traces of acid in the carpet.
