How to Upgrade XP
- 1). Insert the operating system disc into the computer optical drive.
- 2). Click the "Start" button on the bottom-left of the desktop and select "My Computer" from the menu.
- 3). Double-click on the optical drive containing the upgrade disk.
- 4). Click upgrade when presented with an option. Do NOT choose "reinstall," because this will completely erase your hard drive to install the new operating system. Although upgrading will take longer, it will keep your old files.
- 5). Wait until the process completes and type your product key when asked. Although the upgrade process may take two or more hours, when it completes, you will be running a new version of Windows and all your personal files will be preserved.
