Downloading Pre-Made Animations

• 1). Search online for animated desktops. Visit several sites to find animated desktop themes that are compatible with your interests. Look for recommended sites that are reputable to avoid spyware and other software Trojans.
  
  
• 2). Download the install file for the animated desktop. Click on the animated desktop link to start the download. Set the target directory for the file to be saved at the prompt.
  
  
• 3). Locate the executable file on your computer once it has been downloaded. Double-click the file and begin the installation. Follow the prompts to complete the installation. When the installation is done, click "OK."
  
  
• 4). Open the animated desktop by navigating to the Applications menu on your PC or Mac computer. On a PC, navigate to "Start Menu > All Programs" and search for the installed animated desktop. Click on the icon to start the animated desktop. On a Mac, open the Applications folder from the Places menu and click on the installed animated desktop program to run.
  
  

Creating an Animated Desktop

• 1). Download a desktop animation software such as Stardock's DeskScapes software or another animation software. Install the software on your computer.
  
  
• 2). Launch the desktop animation software. Import a picture, wallpaper or video to edit as an animated desktop. Color static wallpapers, add multiple images into one background, or apply special effects to the wallpaper using the animator's tools. Alternatively, designate a video file as a desktop background.
  
  
• 3). Save the desktop wallpaper or video as an animation using the desktop animation software. Launch the file from within the animation software to activate the desktop animation.
