DIY Camera Monitor
- 1). Enable the "HDMI out" function on your video camera so that the camera sends a signal to the monitor once it is attached. The "HDMI out" option is usually located in the display settings of the camera menu.
- 2). Attach the HDMI cable from your video camera to the back of the LCD monitor.
- 3). Cut the bottom out of the shoebox so that there is no longer a top or bottom to the box. Attach the box to the monitor with tape so that the box forms a "hood" over the monitor. The hood blocks glare from external light sources, and assists your ability to see the true colors of your composition.
- 4). Turn the camera and monitor on to test the connection. If the picture on the monitor differs from your video camera, or the image is compressed, adjust the output display on your camera to ensure it is set to a 16:9 ratio.
- 5). Secure the monitor to the tripod of your camera if you wish to make the monitor stationary. Use three or more zip ties secured from the back of the monitor to the legs of the tripod.
