How to Tweak the UI for Windows XP
- 1). Right-click an empty space on the desktop and click "Properties." The "Display Properties" page will then be displayed.
- 2). Click the "Desktop" tab to view the desktop customization options. Click a background image from the list to select one of the default backgrounds, or select "Browse" to open a file browser window and select a custom background.
- 3). Click the "Screen saver" tab to view the screen saver customization options. Select a screen saver from the list. Select a time in minutes in the "Wait" box; this sets how long Windows will wait from when you last performed an action until it displays the screen saver. If you wish to, check "On resume, display the Welcome Screen." This will cause the welcome screen to be displayed each time you return to the computer, where you will have to enter your user password if you have created one. Some screen savers have special options. Click the "Options" button to view and modify these.
- 4). Click the "Appearance" tab to view the window appearance customization options. Select from the drop-down lists to customize window styles, color schemes and font sizes. Click the "Advanced" button to view the "Advanced" appearance window. The Advanced appearance menu allows you to customize the same settings on specific window items.
- 5). Press the "Apply" button to apply the UI changes to your computer.
- 6). Press the "Themes" tab to view the themes menu. Press "Save As" to save your customizations as a theme to use later. You can select from previously created custom themes by selecting one from the drop down list, and then clicking the "Apply" button.
- 7). Press the "OK" button to close the "Display Properties" window.
