How to Take Apart a Railroad Pocket Watch
- 1). Open up the watch's back. Most Railroad pocket watches open at a hinge. Use your fingernail to pop the back open.
- 2). Wind your watch to find the click. It will make a sound each time it crosses a gear.
- 3). Hold your watch in a hand with your index finger and thumb firm on the crown. You can also hold firmly the button that you wind the watch with. Wind it slightly, moving the click away from the gears.
- 4). Move the click with a toothpick until the click is out from the gears' path. Take your fingers off the crown. The watch should start to unwind. Leave it until it fully unwinds.
- 5). Loosen the watch's screws. Unscrew them until they clear the movement, but no more.
- 6). Remove the watch's face by popping it out or unscrewing it. Take the movement out of the case.
