    • 1). Unplug the cable modem from the power source.

    • 2). Disconnect the modem from the computer if necessary by unplugging the Ethernet cable from the computer.

    • 3). Connect the free end of the Ethernet cable to the port labeled "Internet," "WAN," or "WLAN" on the back of the wireless router. If the modem was not previously connected to the computer, plug one end of the cable into the router as described previously and the other in the Ethernet port on the back of the modem.

    • 4). Plug in and turn on the modem. Wait for it to complete its start-up cycle and connect to the Internet.

    • 5). Plug in and turn on the router. Wait for its start-up cycle to complete and check to see whether the Internet light is illuminated, indicating that it has connected to the Internet successfully. Check the user's manual for information on how the lights should appear when functioning properly.

    • 6). Consult the user's manual or insert the configuration CD into a computer with Wi-Fi capability to connect to the new wireless router.
