Primary consideration for a buyer of AC is the choice between split AC and the windows AC. Both have their respective advantages and disadvantages. But the most interesting feature about them is that both of them are equally competent and efficient. Only thing that makes all the difference between the two is the preference and requirements of the user.

Understanding AC
Before going into the pros and cons of split or windows model of air conditioners, it is necessary understanding their basic features.
* They have some common features and some differences as well.
* Common features in both types of AC are condenser, evaporator, and compressor.
However, the similarities between split and windows AC virtually come to an end here.

Point of Differences
There are certain points of differences between the split AC and the windows AC.
* Compressor and condenser form the outdoor unit for the split air conditioners.
* Evaporators form the indoor unit for these air conditioners and thus the split model has two units; one outdoor and another indoor.
* In case of windows air conditioner there is no splitting of units and the entire AC machine comes as a single unit.

Installation Features
Usually there is a big difference in the installation of the split and windows air conditioners. Usually, the outdoor unit of split AC is installed on top of the roof or parapet of the windows and such other places. The other part or the indoor unit is usually hung on the wall. It is completely different in case of the windows AC. Since it is a single unit, it is located on windows or some open space in the wall where one part with the control panel faces the inside of the room and the other part with compressor and condenser remains on the outer side of the wall in which it is installed. That is why installation wise it is easier installing windows AC in comparison to their split counterparts.

Dealing with Misconception
Split AC are getting very popular these days and the growing popularity and use is also to some extent due to misconception among the user circle that they are more efficient than their windows counterpart. In truth neither is better than the other and both are equally efficient.
* As split AC is located nearer to the roof it tends to cool from top of the room gradually moving towards the bottom.
* Windows models are located nearer to the floor or halfway and they start cooling from the bottom of the room.

Basic differences between two models are that in windows form all the units are on the same base whereas they are placed on different levels in case of split model. Also windows AC occupies greater space in comparison to split AC. However in terms of cost of installation, maintenance, and spare parts, windows model is more economic.
