How to Password a Zip File on Windows 7
- 1). Download and install 7-Zip from www.7-zip.org.
- 2). Right-click the folder you want to lock and select "7-Zip," then "Add to archive..." The "Add to Archive" window will open.
- 3). Choose "Zip" for the "Archive format" and select a compression level. (The program also gives you the option of saving in 7-Zip's proprietary "7z" file type).
- 4). Enter and re-enter your desired password in the "Encryption" box.
- 5). Click "OK" and wait for the files to compress. When you try to extract the files from your archive, or to open them from within, you'll be prompted to enter your password.
