Manufacturing and Uses of Tin Coated Copper Wire

Tin coated copper wire is a relatively more complex in its shape. Cables are also made out of this wire. It is used mostly for overhead power transmission in subways, heavy and light transportation systems, mine trains that run by electricity, industrial cranes, buses, etc. The quality needed in these wires to sustain in the toil that they have to go through in their use are
* High temperature sustainability
* Resistance to oxidation
* Non-stripping
* Ease in soldering
* Uniformity in Windings
* Conductivity even without oxygen
Some of the standards that tin coated copper wires have to meet are IEC 68-20 and RoHS. These are provided by agencies that are authorized to give them. Actually tin coating is done to copper wires in order to make them sustainable in the extreme wear and tear that they are going to be subject to. Plain copper wire may also be used for the same purpose but they will certainly have much lesser life. An assortment of tin coated copper wires is offered by many manufacturers. They use two methods of tin coating for varying qualities and features of the wires. These are the electroplating and the hot dip process.

The striking features of the electroplated copper wires are bending strength, very good conductivity of electricity when used in high frequency circuit, uniform winding, very tenacious and capable of sustaining even when wrung and ability of low resistance even in high frequency circuit. The hot dip process manufactures the copper wires with more or less similar features but with the only exception that it is not as pure as the wires manufactured through electroplating. The electroplating process for tin coating of wires gives the purest form of copper wire than any other process.
In the hot dip process, the tin is made to melt in an electric pot in which the copper wire is dipped to create the tin coated copper wire. This is done after the process of electroplating which makes the purest form of copper. The electroplating process of tin coating is done by passing the wire through a chemical tray. DC current is used in this process by converting the supply current with a rectifier. The copper wire thus produced is used for house wiring, control panel cable and many other similar electrical and electronic uses. The copper wire does not look like such a great thing if you do not know all about it use.
